About me, my market, and what I love most about my work:

I’m a New Yorker who adopted LA and never looked back. I’ve written about film and TV for almost two decades and though I cover everything, I’ve specialized in the geek world. I’ve written chapters for 14 books in the PsychGeek series and several comics. I spend a lot of time at geek conventions (and book conventions) where I moderate and appear on panels.

I used to co-host a web series with Stan Lee, which was one of the greatest professional experiences of my life. I write for Vital Thrills, Legion of Leia, and /Film, and I’ve been writing short fiction for a production house for several years.

I love the geek world (even with all its problems). I think fantasy and science-fiction often allow you to tackle things that you cannot in regular fiction. I also spent years working to help women become more accepted in geek spaces, which has begun to happen. In addition to work, I’m a marathon runner who is about to run my tenth. I just got married this year as well!

This is my passion project, or passion in general:

Though I’m known for covering the geek world, I’m a huge fan of historical drama, particularly anything set before 1700. If you stand near me long enough, you’ll probably hear something about mythology or the role of women in history.

Running is my current passion outside of movies and television. I started after getting sick four years ago, and now it’s a daily activity. I ran two marathons during the pandemic in my neighborhood, and now I can’t live without it.

What it means to me to be part of the CCA:

Being a part of a group like the CCA has been an incredible joy. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to be surrounded by like-minded people who love movies and TV. I have met some incredible people at our events and online. Being a critic can be rough sometimes, and having gone through harassment campaigns for loving a show or film (or video games), I know that very well. Having a group like this, full of people who love and appreciate the art and technique that goes into filmmaking and criticism to talk to, has made my career a dream, even when it’s difficult.

My favorite film/TV series that I am currently watching and why:

At the moment I’m loving Blue Eye Samurai. There is some incredible work being done, from the unexpected twists and turns in character to the voice performances to the gorgeous art. I’ve been transfixed.
