About me, my market, and what I love most about my work:

I live and work in the greater Los Angeles area, which always seemed like a far-off fantasy land when I was growing up in Ireland (though I was born in West Virginia). Cinema nourished and sustained me even when far away from home, and to live in the midst of all of it, as I have done for a couple of decades now, remains a dream, albeit one with real-world grounding these days. What I love most about my work is that even when I’ve had other jobs, I’ve tried to see every movie and express my thoughts about them, so being allowed to do so in depth and at length feels like my truest expression of self.

This is my passion project, or passion in general:

I know that I will probably not live enough years to see every movie that’s worth my time, but I’d like to get as close as possible to doing so. I also love to collect and photograph toys, in ways that allow the adult eye to remember what avatars of the imagination they used to be when we were children in the backyard.

What it means to me to be part of the CCA:

As of this writing I have just joined, so I suspect the best is yet to come. As critics, we mostly hear from people when they disagree, or get mad at us, so the affirmation and respect of my peers means a great deal, as it’s a rare example of the kind of positive feedback we can provide.

My favorite film/TV series that I am currently watching and why:

I’m still slowly enjoying The Sandman on Netflix — an impressive adaptation of an all-time favorite book, though I still wish they’d given Tom Sturridge the full extreme goth look. Morpheus in flesh tones feels weird, but I presume they tested the other version and found it lacking on camera.

My social media and where you can find my work:

My best links are all on Twitter @lytrules. Also @lytrules on Instagram, though that’s mostly for my toy photography. My outlets as of this writing are The AV Club, Superhero Hype, ComingSoon.net, and Slashfilm.
