About me, my market, and what I love most about my work:
I’ve always thought about movies, perhaps too much. Since I was very young, according to my mom, I was always asking questions and coming up with answers that made sense to me about why a story played out like it did. That led me to film criticism. I began reading Roger Ebert and watching At The Movies when I was 10 and I was hooked for good. I am in central Illinois, Eastern Iowa market. It’s a relatively rural market outside of the Quad Cities on the Iowa/Illinois border. It’s a movie-starved area and I have made a niche for myself. My radio reviews air on numerous stations but I am most passionate about my podcast and writing about movies.

This is my passion project, or passion in general:
I cohost two movie-based podcasts, Everyone’s a Critic Movie Review Podcast is about new release films. And Everyone’s a Critic 1993 is a chronological review of movies released 30 years ago. I have two male co-hosts for the main show and a female and non-binary co-host for the 1993 podcast. My NB cohost is also a Gen-Z’er so showing them movies from 30 years ago has been a trip.

I write about every movie I see, just about. My favorite thing to do is discuss the mechanics of storytelling. I recently wrote a piece about the opening two minutes of Casablanca as an example of the genius of Michael Curtiz. https://vocal.media/geeks/casablanca-and-the-brilliance-of-director-michael-curtiz

That kind of writing means a lot to me. I’ve found a writing niche for Vocal.Media outlets where I have no one telling me what I can or cannot write about. A good example is a 3000 word piece I wrote about the movie Irreversible in honor of the re-release of that film. There was no home for a piece like that but Vocal was happy to publish it. https://vocal.media/horror/how-irreversible-shames-hollywood

What it means to me to be part of CCA:
10 or 11 years now, I believe. I can’t remember exactly.

My Favorite Film/ TV series that I am currently watching and why:
Everything Everywhere All at Once is my current favorite movie. It moved me so deeply. I’ve never connected emotionally to a film the way that I connected to Everything Everywhere All at Once.
