Weekend Box Office Is The Cat’s Meow

The summer has officially hit $4 billion at the box office, with The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day as last weekend’s top earners. However, their stellar simultaneous performances aren’t the most surprising part of the weekend’s revenues.

A24’s Tony, starring CCA winner Dominic Sessa, had the weekend’s top per-screen average with $58.2K on six screens. The biopic about the vibrant, Critics Choice Award-winning reality host Anthony Bourdain, will have a platform release, expanding in the coming weeks.

Following closely behind is Teenage Sex & Death at Camp Miasma, starring CCA winners Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson. The horror film earned a $50.6K per screen average.

Neither film cracked the top ten (yet). Nabbing the tenth spot was the eighth edition of Oscilloscope Laboratories CatVideoFest 2026, featuring 70 minutes of the latest and best cat videos. Cosmically balancing the CCA’s announcement last week of Super Awards winner Indy the dog for Best Good Boy, a portion of the $568.4K revenue from CatVideoFest 2026 will go to local animal shelters and animal welfare groups.

Oscillioscope told AndersonVision.com that as a company known for “distinctive independent cinema,” they are committed to keeping the festival in theaters where “the communal laughter, the shared reactions, the collective appreciation for feline absurdity and charm, create an experience that home viewing cannot replicate.”
