As we leap into the 2026 awards season, The Wrap is reporting that the relationship between Netflix and theater owners is taking a positive turn. Following meetings at Cinemacon between Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos and various major theater executives, including Cinema United President and CEO Michael O’Leary, Netflix plans to report box office grosses for some upcoming banner films.
The first film on the list is La Bola Negra, directed by CCA Celebración Director Award honorees Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, also known as Los Javis. Netflix will release the film in cinemas October 16, giving the expected Oscar contender a 47-day theatrical run – unprecedented for Netflix – before streaming it on their service.
Also included on the list is the IMAX-exclusive Thanksgiving release of David Fincher’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.
Next year, Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will be released in theaters in February, and Charlie vs. The Chocolate Factory will follow in November 2027.
