Eric Deggans is a critic-at-large at NPR, moving into this role in late 2025 after 12 years as the first full-time TV critic, media analyst, and guest host at the network. He is also the Knight Professor of Journalism and Media Ethics at Washington and Lee University in Virginia. He has worked as a contributor to NBC News, MSNBC and CNN, held staff jobs at the Tampa Bay Times, Asbury Park Press, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newspapers and contributed to several books including Race-Baiter: How the Media Wields Dangerous Words to Divide a Nation, The Wire: The Complete Visual History, Reading Media: How to do Textual Analysis, and The New Ethics of Journalism: Principles for the 21st Century. Eric has been a CCA member since 2018.
