As we leap into the 2026 awards season, The Wrap is reporting that the tenuous relationship between Netflix and theater owners is making strides towards positivity. Following Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos’ meetings at Cinemacon with various major theater executives, including Cinema United’s President/CEO Michael O’Leary, Sarandos has pledged to report box office grosses for Netflix’s upcoming banner films.

The first film on the list is La Bola Negra, directed by CCA Celebración Director Award honorees Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, also known as Los Javis. Considered to be Netflix’s first Oscar contender of the season, Netflix will release the film in cinemas October 16th, giving it an unprecedented-for-Netflix 47-day theatrical run before streaming it on their service.

Also included in the list is the Imax-exclusive Thanksgiving 2026 release of David Fincher’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. 

Next year, Greta Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will be released in February, and Charlie vs. The Chocolate Factory will come in November 2027.
