Annual BFCA Election – President
As specified in the BFCA By-Laws (Article V, Section 2), it is again time for the BFCA presidential election. This article is the official call for nominees for a two-year term, beginning on July 1, 2018.
As described in the By-Laws, the BFCA President is the general manager and chief executive officer of the Association, responsible for the general supervision, direction and control of the business of the Association, working out of the BFCA office at 9220 Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. The annual salary for serving as BFCA President remains $180,000.
The BFCA has continued to grow in recent years. It has a full and part-time staff of 10, plus outside lawyers, accountants, consultants and marketing reps. Under the fulltime leadership of the president, BFCA plays a significant role in our industry, while also funding scholarships, film festival grants and other charitable endeavors. Our Critics’ Choice Awards show is well established on television and a central part of the president’s job is dealing with the domestic and international television networks that have licensed or seek to license the rights to broadcast our shows, including the nominations and red carpet specials, in addition to our prestigious awards shows. This involves innumerable and year-round meetings, conference calls, site visits, etc. Working with sponsors and other marketing partners is also critical, along with planning for other BFCA events such as parties, receptions, and our second awards show, the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards. Maintaining relationships with such important organizations as SAG, WGA, DGA, MPAA, AMPAS, ATAS and every studio and film marketing and distribution company is also crucial. All this is on top of general oversight of the BFCA and our website (www.criticschoice.com), coordinating with BTJA leadership, supervising all BFCA Committees, being available to all members with questions or concerns, and serving as spokesperson for our Association in the media and the industry.
It is the unanimous recommendation of the BFCA Board of Directors that Joey Berlin be reelected as BFCA President for another two-year term. He has confirmed his strong desire to continue to lead the BFCA. He is currently involved in executing our broadcast deal with The CW for CCA and planning for the launch of the Critics’ Choice Reality Awards. We believe maintaining consistent leadership is vital to this process.
If any other member or members wish to run for President, they should signify intention to do so by sending an email to BFCA Secretary Sara Voorhees (firstname.lastname@example.org) by May 25, 2018. The nominating process will close on that date. A new discussion board will be opened on May 28, if necessary, in preparation for an election the week of June 11. Voting will be by secret ballot, tabulated by the accounting firm of Gregory A. Mogab. If no one chooses to oppose the current president running for re-election, there will be no voting and the current president will continue to serve.
