The 18th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards is shaping up as our best show yet. The fact that it is taking place just hours after the Academy Award nominations are announced is sure to add to the excitement, especially for those many stars who are going to be celebrating their Oscar noms in the morning with us that same afternoon and evening.
Virtually all of the major nominees have confirmed that they’ll be joining us on January 10th. Subject to last minute changes, we’re expecting ALL of our Best Actor AND Best Actress nominees, ALL of our Directors, and just about everyone else, too. (Call the BFCA office if there’s anyone you’re particularly interested in – 310-860-2665.)
In a nod to our new broadcast partner, The CW Television Network, we’ve added a bunch of popular categories focusing on the movies that most of their viewers are most interested in – including Best Actor and Actress in Comedy and in Action Movies, plus Best Sci-Fi/Horror movie, and our first fan-voted award, Favorite Film Franchise. Voting for the latter was powered by Virb, a Media Temple company, which is also hosting our first ever night before “Pre-Party” at 41 Ocean Club.
The hysterical Rebel Wilson will be presenting Judd Apatow with our first Critics’ Choice Louis XIII Genius Award, which is bound to be one of the evening’s highlights. In fact, looking at the show rundown there seem to be nothing BUT highlights for the whole two hours.
We’ve moved our CCMA to a huge new venue – the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica – so we can finally get EVERYONE in the room and seated on the floor. It will be about a thousand of Hollywood’s heaviest hitters, stars, filmmakers, studio execs and about 140 BFCA members, all in one room. The Red Carpet show (live on KTLA-LA and on ReelzChannel immediately preceding the main show), the CCMA on The CW, and the After Party will ALL be at the Barker Hangar.
BFCA members will be more involved in the show than ever before, in ways both funny and fabulous. We don’t want to give away everything, but the 18th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will be truly spectacular.
